Families Reunite after U.S. Border Opens Up-6

On the shores of the Rio Grande Canal which is across from the Mexican border, over 300 families were reunited, even if it was only for 3 minutes! They opened the gates and let family members rejoin! The U.S. border patrol and Mexico's Federal Police were watching very closely making sure their were no escapes. The human rights advocacy group, "Hugs Not Walls" helped thousands of families reunite this past month. Starting at 9 a.m. groups of 20 people, 10 from each side would embrace family members that some had not seen in years or even decades! Cities of El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez were planned to meet again! To make sure no one got lost citizens for the US wore blue t-shirts while Mexican wore white. Fernando GarcĂa of the U.S.-based Border Network for Human Rights says "“This is an act of love, there’s hugs, smiles and happiness but still, it is also an act of protest. We need to raise awareness of the crisis of deported families.” I feel like this event would change many peoples lives if they did it more often, to help keep families that have been separated close to each other!
